Mickey

White with big brown spots and HUGE ears from Woodstock, NY

Mickey was wandering the streets of the Bronx abandoned and nearly starved to death when a cop saw him, found he was friendly, and took him in to Animal Control in Harlem. He had one day to go on death row when a pit bull loving rescue worker met him, saw how friendly and affectionate he was, pulled him from the shelter, and put his photo on Petfinder. I saw a picture of him and was smitten but had to see if my other dog, Candy, a small, feisty rat terrier mix liked him.Candy and I went to meet Mickey who was rail thin and shivery. He politely tried to sniff Candy's butt. Candy growled once. Mickey backed up apologetically. Ten minutes later, Candy was letting Mickey sniff her head to toe. Mickey moved in with us. He wasn't house trained but learned within hours. As he started putting on weight and gaining confidence (nature scared him!) his mischievous side came out. He started stealing my shoes. Transporting my clothing from the laundry basket to his bed. Jumping up onto incredibly high counters to steal banana bread. But he and Candy were in love and I was completely smitten. Together, the three of us go on long morning hikes to chase squirrels and bark at deer and then come home to snuggle up near the wood stove while I write novels that, unsurprisingly, feature a whole lot of pit bulls.
