Calendar Featurette - Azula

Featured Dog - Azula

We have a special holiday feature story for you! Azula is a very special girl who has a lot to be grateful for as she beat the odds and found a lot more than a comfy couch to snooze on! She is the November dog in the 2012 Calendar.

Azula was found off of the streets of San Diego, California. She was seriously injured at the time and no one thought that she would pull through.

As her rescuers and caretakers were trying to decide if they should attempt to save a dog in such poor shape and terrible pain, Azula gave them a sign, she thumped her tail. It was then they knew for sure, they had to try. She was sewed and patched up, and slowly, but surely she recovered. Through all the pain and the trips to the vet, one thing never changed, Azula's sweet, loving spirit.

“When we spotted her on Petfinder, we knew she was the dog for us. Her story struck a chord. We had to give Azula the happy ending she deserved. She joined our family two years ago and "Zula" as she's now known, is a cherished family companion. She LOVES everyone she meets, and will flop over on her back to offer her belly for scratching whenever the opportunity presents itself!”

From my earliest memories, I have always loved animals. Growing up with a disability made me acutely aware of being different, and being treated differently. My animal friends were a refuge. They give such unconditional love and acceptance. In particular, I had a very close bond to dogs. We really understood each other, dogs and I. Having a furry neck to cry in to. Or a huge grin and wagging tail when I would come home from getting relentlessly teased at school. My relationship with them has been a blessing and very healing. I am a member of HeARTs Speak as well.
